Trekking Dec 2008 :: Kalavantin Durg [Trekking around Panvel]

All I know is.. "Google is my friend", whenever I am in search of some interesting place to trek.. I can only do is Google it out. Since I had recently been to Prabalgad, I had an eye for doing a winter trek to "Kalavantin Durg".

All I could comment was "Amazing Place, Amazing Snaps".. I heard from my subconscious mind was to visit this place asap.. And we had Mallik making plans for the same. The plan was to be executed on 6th Dec 2008. We all gathered at Dadar Stn @5:30 a.m., planned to meetup a few fellas at Kurla Stn. headed towards Panvel. Got down at Panvel Rly Stn, moved towards Panvel bus depot to take the 7AM bus to base village of Thakurwadi( Bus fare: 10 bucks each).
The distance shall be around 30 mins (~15-20kms). You can go via Mumbai Pune Highway-Shedung Phata to Thakurwadi. Then proceed to Prabalgad or Kalavantin. The Stairs are full of scree n a little bit broken route.

Kalavantin Durg, near the Panvel region, adjacent to Prabalgad Fort. The 3-hour long trek takes you to Prabal Machi Village, where rock-cut steps lead you to the top of the fort. Its located very close to Panvel, is a medium difficulty trek, but if you dare to visit during rains, its gonna be really more challenging.

Kalwantin durg pinnacle is tougher than Prabalgad. It has some rock cut steps intially and then few more but muddy path near the pinnacle(shall be slippery during rains). But real adventure.

Watch on the down south west - you shall see Zoia Mountain Spa & Resorts, which has a route on the left leading you to Prabal machi. The fort top allows an excellent view of the surroundings hillocks with Prabalgad, Nakhind, Matheran (Panorama Point), Chanderigad, Vikatgad(Peb), Shri Malanggad, Irshalgad, Karnala, Manikgad, Navra Navri, etc .. each of these can be easily identified.

Location: Kalavantin Durg is a pinnacle located near Panvel.

Details: Kalavantin Durg is situated on northeast side of Panvel, on Mumbai-Pune road. Can see it frm express highway a V-Shaped one. The Left one is Kalwantin Durg & right side is Prabalgad. But there is a dense forest on the way till the the top of fort Prabal. Historical references indicate that Freedom fighter Umaji Naik made a stay here in 1826.
You can go via Mumbai Pune Highway-Shedung Phata to Thakurwadi.
